Search engines are the lifeline of many websites. This page contains a listing of the more well known search engines which most people consider important to submit their site's URL to. When ever possible the URL for submission of your site should also be listed in the description.
 
Some people prefer an automated service for submitting their website. If you are one of those, there are some free search engine submission services listed on our:

Most experienced webmasters prefer to manually submit their site to the individual engines.
 

Note:  Submitting your site is not the same as getting a good listing for your site.   For that, you will need to optimize your site for the search engines.

Its interesting to know that many search engines take their feeds from one of a few search engine databases like Google, Fast, Overture, Teoma and the like.
So for example, Google fuels numerous engines, including, at the time of this writing, the web search facility at Yahoo.  If it's not listed, then it's not a valid search engine.

If your website was dropped off the listings, you could be waiting a considerable amount of time to be re-included. Here are some statistics for database refreshes:

Google: 60 days
AltaVista: Can be several months
Lycos: 2 months
AllTheWeb: Can be up to 1 month

To keep your site listing up to date within the search engines, we suggest submitting your site on a regular basis. A submission once a month will ensure that your site stays up to date and also, more importantly, included in the search engines. General Search Engines Rules of Thumb

ENGINES RULES Submit no more than 2 pages per domain per day that focus on different keywords to avoid spamdexing. Avoid submitting more than 30 pages per domain at any time. Follow the rules outlined by each engine carefully.
